Delhi to Mussoorie

Mussoorie is the queen of hill stations and is a popular weekend destinations from New Delhi, especially in summers.

By road, Delhi to Mussoorie is 320km via Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee and DehraDun.

This route from Delhi via Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee has couple of toll plazas.

The districts that are enroute on Delhi Mussoorie road route are: New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

On any normal day, this route takes around eight hours, assuming normal traffic. Road till DehraDun is mostly plain, except for the last 20km when Mohand starts. Mohand is the hilly and forest area just before the entrance into Doon valley. DehraDun to Mussoorie is mostly hilly drive, with a lot of turns. Popular points for snacks between Delhi and DehraDun are Haldiram, Bikanerwala, KFC, Grand Cheetal. There is also Pandit Dhaba, which is famous for fresh tea and rice kheer. DehraDun to Mussoorie – Its 35km drive from Rajpur Road. The route is full of turns and is hills.

There are some of the points which are not worth missing on DehraDun to Mussoorie route, some of them are: 1. Sardarji Pakode wale at Rajpur – This is a quite old shop located on DehraDun Mussoorie highway, at Rajpur. The shop is famous for pakodas. 2. MDDA Park: Just opposite to Sardarji Pakoda wale, there is MDDA Park, with awesome hill side views. The park is particularly famous among the couples. 3. Shri Prakeshwar Mandir – A shiva temple located at Kuthal Gate, not far away from Rajpur. 4. Bhatta Falls – A natural waterfall on DehraDun Mussoorie road. 5. Maggie Point – There are many Maggie points, serving snacks and offering excellent hill side views for the tourists. 6. Mussoorie Jheel – The lake six km prior to Mussoorie on DehraDun Mussoorie road. The lake offers boat ride and snacks point for the tourists.

There are many direct bus services between Delhi and Mussoorie, but the service is definitely not as good as New Delhi to DehraDun. So, the tourists can catch either a bus from Delhi to Mussoorie or go from Delhi to DehraDun and from DehraDun to Mussoorie.

In DehraDun, there are two bus stands – DehraDun ISBT and Mussoorie Bus Stand. While buses for the plains are available from DehraDun ISBT, the buses for the hills are available from Mussoorie Bus Stand. Mussoorie Bus Stand is located besides DehraDun Railway Station. The taxi stand for hill is also outside DehraDun Railway Station.

The direct buses from New Delhi to Mussoorie are less, however, the buses from Delhi to DehraDun are more frequent. Bus services from DehraDun to Mussoorie are good.

There are multiple trains that serve New Delhi DehraDun route. There is no train service between DehraDun and Mussoorie. The train timings are given in the below chart. There are multiple cab operators who are operating on this route. With around seven hours of journey time between New Delhi and Mussoorie, its recommended to depart from the origin in the early morning hours to avoid traffic jams, hence reducing the travel times. The cabs can be booked from the authorized travel agents across the city. Among the private travel operators, offering cab service on this route, GTS is very popular. The rates of the cab service depends on the size of the car and the use of air conditioner. The small four seater car without use of AC is cheapest, while the AC 8 seater cab like innova is costliest, but most convenient and luxurious.

DehraDun has its own airport, located on DehraDun Rishikesh highway, popularly known as Jolly Grant Airport. The flights are available from New Delhi to DehraDun. The flight operators that operate on New Delhi DehraDun route are: 1. Spicejet 2. Jet Airways 3. Alliance Air 4. Indigo The flight journey between Delhi to DehraDun is close to one hour. There are no direct flights to Mussoorie.

The DehraDun Airport is 60km from Mussoorie, and is located close to Doiwala village. The journey takes around two hours due to traffic woes, via DehraDun. Jolly Grant airport is equally well connected to Rishikesh, DehraDun, Mussoorie and Haridwar with similar distance between the two. There are few private taxi service operators offering service from DehraDun Airport to Mussoorie. The charges vary on the season time, size of the car and air conditioner used. Summer time is considered peak time when Uttarakhand witness lots of tourists to chardham yatra. During this time, the taxi rates between DehraDun Airport and Mussoorie city becomes high. In case anyone is interested, there are some popular picnic spots on the way from DehraDun Airport to DehraDun. Some of them are – Lachhi Wala (now also called as Nature Park), Laxman Sidhh Temple.
